I bought my first bike (Suzuki S40/LS650) this 6/23/2008 and after 5200 miles the front brake pads are worn out - I figured they'd at least last 10,000 miles so I wasn't keeping an eye on them - well anyway, the hardley shop wanted $70/hr for labor - so I ordered front brake pads ($40) and the maintenance manual ($75) - the pads came in but the maintenance manual hasn't - question - does anyone know how many foot pounds of torque to put on the main mount bolts? If I use a torque wrench to measure how many foot pounds of torque to crack them loose, could I use that same foot pounds to put them back on?

No the bolts will be much tighter to remove due to surface tension and corrosion. If you google what you need you will be amazed to find alot of this kind of information.
When I 'm working on something I always google it for the  the forums. Like this  google   search : Suzuki savage forums.  The forums are always loaded with DIY info and specs and info from the manuals.

Add: High temp grease to the backside of the pads (piston-side) and the areas that touch the springs inside the caliper.
Also put some grease on the brake pad mounting bolt.
Torque:
Attachment bolts 18-29 lb-ft
Brakepad mounting bolt 11-14.5 lb-ft

Its still good idea to have the service manual. I will not buy a new bike if they cant give me the manual for free with it. Next time you buy one demand it with the bike.

Go to Custom Power Sports on Western Ave. by Scioto Shoe Mart. They have a certified mechanic, and also let us use their parking lot (if needed) to have people sign the red light camera petition.

Owner is a real good guy.

Wow, I can't believe that you had to replace the pads with so few miles.  My first bike was a 1982 Honda CB900 Custom with 32000 miles on it and original pads.  I replaced them at 32500 when I replaced the tires.  I rode that bike 25000 miles in two years.  Since then, I purchased a BMW R1200 RT and have enjoyed 16400 miles in 10 1/2 months.  Everywhere that I go, I ride a motorcycle.  If the roads are free of snow or ice, I ride no matter what the temperature.  In the summer, I ride rain or shine. 

I hope that you enjoy your bike.  I would see if the front caliper is hanging up with such poor life from the pads.
